Wetlands are like sitting in the window seat of a 747 for the very first time looking through a kaleidoscope into the sun as it hurdles towards the earth. It’s Australia’s answer to grunge that you never knew you needed.
Kaito Maloo has a way of drawing you in with her gentle approach and drone guitar reminiscent of the likes of Georgia Maq and Courtney Barnett only to then shatter into an unhinged explosion of pure unadulterated heart and power that you simply cannot ignore.
It’s complimented by the unique guitar work of Strazbürg, which draws comparisons to the Seattle grunge scene mixed with the atmospheric lead guitar of early 90’s Manchester Brit pop.
A huge part of the cohesive sound of Wetlands undoubtedly stems from the connection of the sibling combo in the rhythm section known as the Skinns. With Kristen on bass and Brayden on drums.
Although relatively new to the block you’d be hard pressed not to see a Wetlands shirt floating around at shows in their home towns in south-east Qld. For fans of Nirvana, Tired Lion and DMAS
